Government Owners
Heritage Asset Management

General government sector agencies hold more than 200 State registered heritage places (approximately 15% of the State Register) and many more properties are listed on local government heritage lists. Increasingly, agencies are required to address heritage and conservation issues relating to their property assets.

The Heritage Council is currently developing a Heritage Asset Management web-based manual to assist government. It will include information on how to identify and manage your heritage assets, including archaeological sites, and strategically plan for their maintenance, repair, adaptation or disposal. There will be useful links to planning documents such as how to prepare a heritage inventory, conservation management plan, interpretation strategy and archaeological management plan. Please stayed tuned.

In the meanwhile, if you are considering disposing of a place that has or may have heritage significance, please read the introduction to the Government Heritage Property Disposal Process
