Heritage home-owners, masonry apprentices, and local government staff were among twelve participants at the National Trust of Western Australia’s stonemasonry workshop held in Geraldton on Wednesday 11 April.

The workshop was held as a part of the Heritage Council's 2018 Regional Heritage Conference. National Trust staff with local mason Errol Tillbrook from Keboda Stone explored the site’s 1880s gneiss stone buildings and learned about the damage caused by inappropriate mortars.

This was followed by an overview of how and why using lime mortars is best for heritage buildings and a hands-on session testing for salts, removing cement mortar, mixing lime mortar and practicing repointing techniques.

The workshop was sponsored by the Heritage Council of Western Australia.
