Aldgate, East Fremantle (1892)
A Heritage Council Heritage Grant Program assisted Aldgate's owners in the restoration of rare elaborately hand-painted ceiling murals, friezes and stencils that date back to 1895.
The interior decorative elements inside Aldgate were once widespread in grand residences built by wealthy citizens at the turn of the 20th Century.
The $12,623 grant helped ensure that these now rare significant original features will remain as a physical reminder of the opulence of the gold boom period.
The Aldgate project highlights the different types of urgent conservation works that can be funded through the grants program.
