Fremantle Prison will once again compete against Australia’s top tourism sites for a coveted national award, following its win at the 2018 Perth Airport Western Australian Tourism Awards.

For the fourth year in a row, the Prison took home a gold medal in the Cultural Tourism category.

Fremantle Prison will now defend its 2017 national win in the same category of the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, to be announced in Launceston on Friday 1 March 2019.

Fremantle Prison Director Paula Nelson said the gold award was a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all involved with the Prison.

“Winning a gold medal, for the fourth consecutive year is a great result and a testament to the consistent quality of tourism experiences being provided by the Prison,” Ms Nelson said.

“The Prison is a fantastic tourism asset for Western Australia and we look forward to defending our title at the national awards in the new year.”

In addition, the Prison started the night by being inducted into the WA Tourism Awards Hall of Fame for consecutive wins in the Cultural Tourism category in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Fremantle Prison also won a silver medal in the Major Tourist Attraction category.
